Suspect Dead In Convenience Store Shooting

(Fort Washington, MD)  --  A suspect is dead after being shot during an apparent robbery at a convenience store in Fort Washington Tuesday evening.  Police say it happened just before 9:30 p.m. in the 12-thousand-500 block of Livingston Road.  Police say two men entered the Food Zone Convenience Mart, attempting a robbery.  The clerk got a hold of one of the suspect's gun and fatally shot him.  The other suspect fled the scene.  Police have not released a description of that suspect.

Michelle Obama To Visit Alexandria Elementary School


(Alexandria, VA)  --  First Lady Michelle Obama is scheduled to visit an Alexandria elementary school this morning, where she'll get to see first hand students' experiments with an outdoor garden.  The White House says Mrs. Obama will travel to Hollin Meadows Elementary, which recently started the outdoor garden.  The First Lady herself recently started an outdoor vegetable garden on the grounds of the White House.  The Obama administration currently has a program called the "Healthier U.S. Schools" initiative which promotes good nutrition in schools.

Pirates Attack Previously Hijacked Ship


(Undated)  --  The Maersk Alabama has been attacked again.  Pirates off Somalia attacked the U.S. flagged ship with automatic weapons early this morning.  The Danish container ship has already been hijacked once this year by pirates.  Today's attack happened about 350 nautical miles off the Somali coast but the ship's security team returned fire and the hijackers fled.  A group of Somali pirates seized the Maersk Alabama back on April 8th, seizing ship captain Richard Phillips.  He was freed five days later by the U.S. navy in a rescue operation.

Report: Dead Girl's Mother Is Pregnant


(Fayetteville, NC)  --  The mother of a five-year-old girl found dead in North Carolina is pregnant.  Antoinette Davis has been charged with selling her daughter Shaniya into sexual slavery.  The girl disappeared last week and her body was later found 100 feet from a road near Fayetteville.  Fayetteville police say Antoinette Davis is pregnant and the father of the baby is a man named Clarence Coe.  He was initially arrested by police and charged with kidnapping Shaniya but the charges were dropped.

Bridal Shop Operator Arrested For Serving Mimosas


(West Point, GA)  --  A Georgia bridal shop owner and city council member is in trouble with the law for allegedly serving mimosas at her store.  West Point City Council member Judy Wilkinson  was handcuffed in front of about 25 customers last weekend during a showing at Formal Elegance.  Police say Wilkinson broke two city ordinances related to alcohol possession at a business and was arrested when an undercover officer pretending to shop for a tuxedo observed drinks made of champagne and orange juice being served.  Wilkinson's attorney says a clerk told her that she did not need an alcohol license to serve mimosas.
